WATCH: Don’t look to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey for Bedlam help
The Berry Tramel Show: Sankey tells Berry that ESPN is not dictating SEC scheduling, and that OKC should be looked at as a continual host for the conference softball tournament.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey joins me for the Berry Tramel Show. Sankey is one of the most influential people in collegiate sports. He expressed excitement about the Sooners and Longhorns joining his conference (5:27). He says OU and Texas will be welcomed by fans at every SEC campus, “and then all of a sudden when we kick off, it won’t be quite as welcoming.” (8:30) Sankey said he joked with OU athletic director Joe Castiglione that the SEC was winning NCAA titles in softball and gymnastics until the Sooners’ recent dynasties, so the league invited OU to join so the celebrations could resume (1:58). And Sankey said that while the SEC does all it can to accommodate in-state, non-conference rivalries, it takes no position on whether they should be played. (11:40)
