WATCH: What makes this OSU team Big 12 Championship-worthy?
Two on OSU: When OSU reached its first Big 12 Championship Game in 2021, it was due to terrific defense. When the Cowboys won the Big 12 in 2011, an explosive offense was the catalyst. OSU has a chance to reach the conference championship in 2023, but the reason why is not as clear.
This year’s Oklahoma State team that is competing for a Big 12 Championship is different from past iterations of OSU’s championship-caliber teams.
In 2021, linebackers Malcolm Rodriguez and Devin Harper were two of a few future NFL defenders who anchored the Cowboys’ suffocating defense. In 2011, quarterback Brandon Weeden developed a connection with receiver Justin Blackmon.
The 2023 Cowboys’ offense is ranked eighth in the Big 12 in scoring. The defense is ranked ninth in points allowed. And yet OSU finds itself in the driver’s seat to reach Arlington with one week left.
Ben Hutchens joins me to talk about what makes OSU so special this season, and if the Cowboys will keep it up next week against BYU.
