Heard Thundering: Jenni Carlson joins Brett Dawson to talk about the rewards and risks behind OKC's new arena proposal.
Let’s talk about arenas. We’re going to do that a lot around here in the coming months (and probably years). If you listen to economists — and I’ve done that some this week — they’ll tell you that taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for billionaires when it comes to building state-of-the-art arenas. But there’s a value beyond the financial for cities. There’s civic pride and team spirit, and these days losing a team is a real threat to markets unwilling to build. The Thunder aren’t threatening to leave OKC, but that doesn’t mean other cities won’t come calling. What to make of it all? My Sellout Crowd colleague Jenni Carlson joins me to try.
