“Conversations with Coach”: Bob Stoops catches up with former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jason White. White was Stoops’ first recruit after he got the OU job.
Jason White remembers a lot about the 2003 season that saw him win the Heisman and take OU to the national title game, but one of the memories included the fear of losing another year to injury. White talks to former coach Bob Stoops about the highs and lows of being OU’s quarterback on the latest edition of Stoops’ “Conversations with Coach” on the Sellout Crowd network.
One of the first things Stoops did after he was named the head football coach for the Oklahoma Sooners in late 1998 was put in a call to Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Living in Tuttle was one of those great-at-everything small-town athletes. Jason White was the quarterback of the Tuttle Tigers and was seriously considering going to the University of Miami. OU hadn’t pushed too hard to get him.
But Stoops made White a priority, and a few seasons later, White was winning the Heisman Trophy and taking the Sooners to the national championship game.
Stoops and White reminisced about those days with the Sooners, especially his 2003 Heisman season, in the latest edition of “Conversations with Coach”, a special presentation of the Sellout Crowd network.
