Last week: 6-6

Some really good picks (OU, Wyoming), some really bad picks (TCU, Clemson), and a nasty bad beat when James Franklin directed his Nittany Lions to score a TD instead of taking a knee.

Illinois at Kansas (-3) —  6:30 p.m. Friday: The Illini got a big wake up call when they needed a last second FG to scrape by Toledo in Week 1. Maybe that got their attention.  Pick: Illinois +3

Utah (-7.5) at Baylor — 11 a.m. Saturday:  As I discussed with Sam Mayes, I think Baylor losing the way they did at home last week was eye-opening. Pick: Utah -7.5

Troy at No. 15 Kansas State (-16.5) — 11 a.m. Saturday: KSU lost last year in a similar spot to Tulane. Tulane was better and K-State is wiser. Pick: Kansas State -16.5

Iowa (-3.5) at Iowa State — 2:30 p.m. Saturday:  I’ve been burned too many times picking Iowa State in this game. Pick: Iowa -3.5

SMU at No. 18 Oklahoma (-16.5) — 5 p.m. Saturday: I don’t take too much out of SMU’s beatdown of La Tech. I think the Mustangs will move the ball some against Oklahoma, but I liked the sharpness from Oklahoma offensively last week. Sooners win in a high-scoring game, something like 51-24. Pick: Oklahoma -16.5

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (-7) — 5:30 p.m. Saturday: Hard to take much out of either team’s wins over FCS punching bags last week. Maybe Pitt is looking ahead to next week’s Backyard Brawl. Pick: Cincinnati +7

Houston (-9.5) at Rice — 6 p.m. Saturday:  Might be Big 12 vs. Pac-12 in coming years. Pick: Houston -9.5

No. 13 Oregon (-6.5) at Texas Tech — 6 p.m. Saturday: I correctly predicted last week that Wyoming would cover in Laramie, but Berry Tramel predicted a straight-up win for the Cowboys. One of the reason’s Berry loved Wyoming was because Laramie is a weird road trip. This week, the Red Raiders have that in their favor. Pick: Texas Tech +6.5

UCF (-3.5) at Boise — 6 p.m. Saturday:  Michael Penix carved up Boise in Week 1 and John Rhys Plumlee will do the same for UCF in Week 2. Black and gold over blue turf. Pick: UCF -3.5

No. 11 Texas at No. 3 Alabama (-7) — 6 p.m. Saturday:  One of the games of the season in college football last year because Texas met the physicality of Alabama early in the contest. That’s way easier to do when you’re not in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Pick: Alabama -7.5

Oklahoma State (-3.5) at Arizona State — 9:30 p.m. Saturday: I agree with Sam Mayes that this game will be a lower scoring game with lots of mistakes. I just can’t get over how poorly Oklahoma State’s offensive line played at times on Saturday. Hard to win on the road if you can’t establish the run game. Arizona State wins an ugly one, 19-17. Pick: Arizona State +3.5

Tulsa at No. 8 Washington (-34.5) — 4 p.m. Saturday: Good news: Tulsa sold out its home game next week with Oklahoma. Bad news: First, you’ve got to travel to try and stop one of the best QBs in the country. Bring on the back door cover.Pick: Tulsa +34.5

No. 20 Ole Miss (-7) at No. 24 Tulane — 2:30 p.m. Saturday: Tulane has a decent shot to run the table if they win this game. SEC talent wins out in this one. Pick: Ole Miss -7

No. 23 Texas A&M (-4.5) at Miami —  2:30 p.m. Saturday: Both teams beat up on Group of Five scraps last week. Conner Weigman throws his first career INT on Saturday, but A&M is too much. Pick: Texas A&M -4.5

Nebraska at No. 22 Colorado (-2.5) —  11 a.m. Saturday: Huge loss last week for Nebraska. Huge win last week for Colorado. Kickoff at 10 a.m. local time. The Huskers are such a sucker play. I’ll likely regret this. Pick: Nebraska +2.5

BONUS PICK: Take the Bears (-1.5) over Green Bay on Sunday. Unless the Bears win by one, it’s a guaranteed happiness pick for this cheesehead.
