OKLAHOMA CITY — Thunder guard Josh Giddey is available to play while the NBA looks into a viral social-media post that alleged he had an improper relationship with a minor, and he will play in Saturday’s 4 p.m. game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault addressed Giddey’s status at his pregame news conference Saturday.

“Available to play, will play, no change in status from a basketball standpoint,” Daigneault said. “I still have no comment on anything else.”

Asked what made him comfortable with Giddey playing, Daigneault said. “Just with the information that we have at this point, that’s the decision that we’ve made. It’s really not even a decision, to be honest with you.”

A Thunder spokesman clarified that Daigneault said there is no decision because the situation is, as Daigneault later said, “a league matter.”

“The ball’s in their court on that,” Daigneualt said.

When asked if the NBA is investigating the allegations made against the 21-year-old Giddey, an NBA spokesman confirmed Friday via text that the league is “looking into” the post that went viral Thanksgiving day on X, the site formerly known as Twitter. He did not use the word “investigation.”

The portion of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement that addresses league investigations does not set ground rules for whether players are permitted to play during one.

It says that players are “required to cooperate with investigations of alleged player misconduct conducted by the NBA” and that the NBA “shall provide the Players Association with such advance notice as is reasonable in the circumstances of any interview or meeting to be held (in person or by telephone) between an NBA representative and a player under investigation by the NBA for alleged misconduct.”

It also states that a representative of the Players Association will be invited to participate or attend any such interview or meeting.
